Day 1:  Arrival at Alba
Day 2: Hiking from Roddi to Barolo or Vergne (15 km, 13 km)

Day 3: Hiking from Barolo to Monforte d'Alba (12 km, 8 km)

Day 4: Hiking from Monforte d'Alba to Cissone (17 km)

Piedmont is Italy's paradise for gourmets. Food, truffles, and amazing wines. Located between the Alps and the Apennine mountains, the Langhe region is blessed with the fertile lands that produce the Tuber Magnatum - a prized white truffle - and some of Italy's most prestigious red wines: Barolo and Barbera. Discover a spectacular array of local specialties including gourmet cheeses, pastries, and chocolates that are appreciated worldwide. This hiking trip takes you to a magnificent landscape with rolling hills and small picturesque villages and elegant castles. You walk through vineyards and hazelnut forests and stay in small charming accommodations in picturesque villages.

Day 1

Arrival at Alba

Arrive at Alba, the heart of Piedmont, a captivating medieval city with "hundred towers" and a treasure chest of flavors and aromas. After checking in, go out for a walk to explore the city. Sit down in the small square or why not stop at one of the many divine pastry. There are nice restaurants with wonderful food and welcoming staff.

Day 2

From Roddi to Barolo or Vergne (15 km, 13 km)

A transfer takes you to Roddi (or Verduno to shorten the walk). You walk through a rolling landscape to get to the old village of La Morra. Once there, you continue to the village of Vergne. Along the way, you have several wine tasting possibilities. On clear days you can see the Alps and Mt. Monviso remaining snow covered until early summer. In La Morra you can visit the Ratti Museum to learn the history, tradition and art of creating the area's good wines. Stop at Cantina Comunale (closed on Tuesdays) which has a wide selection of wines to both taste and buy

 

Challenge: 4/3.5 hours, 15/13 km, 509 / 446m ascent, 383/ 409m descent

Day 3

Vergne/Barolo to Monforte d’Alba (12 km, 8 km)

From Vergne, the hike goes past the old village of Novello, with its medieval towers. You'll make your way to the wine capital Barolo, where the famous wine is produced. Spend some time exploring the newly opened wine museum located in Castello dei Marchesi Faletti and treat yourself to a fantastic lunch at one of the great local trattorians. From here, the hike goes on through vineyards and forests and takes you to Monforte d'Alba, a pleasant mountain village.

 

Challenge: 4/3 hours, 12/8 km, 2447 / 440m ascent, 390/ 200m descent

Day 4

Monforte d’Alba to Cissone (17 km)

Today, the landscape is much more varied than the previous days. You leave the vineyards behind you and climb through both beautiful hazelnut forests and other natural forests surrounding the old village of Serralunga d'Alba. From here, a steep climb takes you to Roddino. From there you have a long downhill slope that takes you to the last ascent up to Cissone.

 

Challenge: 5 hours, 17 km, 680m ascent, 565m descent

    Practical information     

You can start the journey which day you desire, depending on availability, between April - November 15.

The nearest airport is Turin (TRN). Milan Linate (LIN) or Milan Malpensa (MPX) also work well but are further away

From Turin there are several trains daily to Alba but you need to change in Asti or in Cavallermaggiore.

After completing the hike in Cissone, take the bus either to Alba or Asti and then take the train to the airport you should travel from. 

4 nights - All accomodations are carefully selected with a view to location, atmosphere and/or unique facilities. All rooms have a private bathroom.
